This mako was caught in a shark tournament off Montauk Point, New York. The eastern prickly pear painted at the bottom left is from Walking Dunes Park at the end of Napeague Harpor Road, not far from Montauk. I choose the various elements under each of the ocean fishes not only to activate the space and build compositional and aesthetic interest but also to acknowledge that the land and the sea are part of the same ecosystem, that the health of one affects the other. In nature, all elements are interconnected.
