"In 2014, I joined shark researcher Greg Skomal and followed one of his study animals bu boat, a great white shark named Chex, who was affixed with an acoustic tag. A young male, about 15 feet long, Chex meandered slowly just beneath the surface near Nauset Beach. We followed him on the water (with the help of a pilot in a spotter plane who radioed the shark’s location to us when we’d lost sight of him) and I took photos and videos using a pole with a camera submerged underwater. I used these to make a portrait of this animal with all the scars and scabs on his sides, residue of his personal life experience in the ocean”
